Privacy Policy
How Sportzal Ltd collects, uses and protects your personal data.
1. Who we are
Sportzal Ltd (“Sportzal”, “we”, “us”) is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.
- Company: Sportzal Ltd, registered in England & Wales, company no. 16853933
- Registered office: 167–169 Great Portland Street, 5th Floor, London, W1W 5PF, United Kingdom
- Contact: hello@sportzal.ai
This policy covers sportzal.ai and the Sportzal iOS application (currently in invitation-only beta).
2. What we collect
2.1 Website — waitlist
When you join the waitlist we collect your email address and the fact that you submitted it via sportzal.ai, together with the date and time. We store a flag in your browser’s local storage (sz-waitlist-joined) so the form remembers you have already signed up. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
2.2 Application — account and training data
If you are invited into the beta, we process:
- Account data — name, email address, and authentication identifiers.
- Training profile — your goals, available equipment, experience level and schedule.
- Session data — exercises performed, sets, repetitions, load, range of motion, time under tension and derived form-quality scores.
- Health and injury information — any injuries or physical limitations you choose to report so the Scheduler can programme around them. This is special category data under UK GDPR and we process it only with your explicit consent, which you may withdraw at any time.
2.3 Application — camera and video
The Vision Coach uses your device camera to count repetitions and analyse movement. This analysis runs on your device. The camera feed is processed locally in real time and is not streamed to us. What leaves your device is the resulting numerical data — rep counts, joint angles, range of motion, timing and form flags — not the video itself.
We do not use your camera data for biometric identification, and we do not use it to identify you as an individual.
If a future version of the app offers to upload a recording (for example so you can review a lift, or so you can send us a clip to help diagnose a problem), that upload will always be something you choose explicitly, and the app will tell you before anything is sent.
2.4 Technical data
Our hosting and infrastructure providers process standard technical data such as IP address, device and operating system version, and request logs, for security, abuse prevention and diagnostics.
3. Why we process it, and our lawful basis
| Purpose | Data | Lawful basis |
|---|---|---|
| Send you a beta invitation and launch updates | Email address | Consent |
| Provide the app — programme sessions, coach lifts, adapt plans | Account, training profile, session data | Performance of a contract |
| Programme safely around injuries | Health and injury information | Explicit consent |
| Improve accuracy of rep counting and form detection | Aggregated, de-identified session metrics | Legitimate interests |
| Keep the service secure and prevent abuse | Technical data | Legitimate interests |
| Meet legal and accounting obligations | As required | Legal obligation |
Where we rely on consent you can withdraw it at any time — unsubscribe from any email we send, or write to hello@sportzal.ai. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing carried out before you withdrew it.
4. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal data and we do not share it for advertising. We use a small number of processors who handle data on our instructions only:
- Supabase — waitlist database
- Vercel — website hosting and delivery
- Google Cloud Platform and Firebase — application backend, authentication and storage
- Apple — beta distribution via TestFlight and App Store services
We may also disclose data where we are legally required to, or to establish or defend legal claims.
5. International transfers
Some of our providers process data outside the United Kingdom, including in the United States and the European Economic Area. Where data leaves the UK we rely on UK adequacy regulations or on the International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, together with appropriate technical safeguards.
6. How long we keep it
- Waitlist email — until you ask us to remove it, or until 24 months after the beta closes to new invitations, whichever comes first.
- Account and training data — for as long as your account is active, then deleted within 30 days of account closure.
- Health and injury information — deleted with your account, or sooner on request.
- Aggregated, de-identified metrics — retained indefinitely; these can no longer be linked back to you.
- Records we must keep by law — for the period the relevant law requires.
7. Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- access a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- have your data erased;
- restrict or object to how we process it;
- receive your data in a portable format;
- withdraw consent at any time; and
- not be subject to a solely automated decision that has a legal or similarly significant effect on you. Sportzal’s training recommendations are automated, but they are advisory — you remain free to reject any exercise or plan the app suggests.
To exercise any of these, write to hello@sportzal.ai. We will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113. We would appreciate the chance to address it first.
8. Security
We use encryption in transit and at rest, access controls limited to the people who need it, and providers who maintain recognised security certifications. On-device processing of the camera feed means the most sensitive data — video of you training — does not travel across the network at all.
9. Children
Sportzal is not intended for anyone under 16 and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has given us personal data, write to hello@sportzal.ai and we will delete it.
10. Changes to this policy
If we make a material change we will update the date at the top of this page and, where the change affects you meaningfully, tell you by email.
